FIRST DISCIPLE

Do you want anything to eat?

SECOND DISCIPLE

No. I have not been hungry since it happened. Everyone says that I should eat, but I do not feel like eating anything.

(Both disciples sit down on chairs)

FIRST DISCIPLE

I know how you feel. I have not been able to sleep since the crucifixion. I keep having nightmares. I still hear the pounding of the nails. When I try to sleep I hear the soldiers laughing and gambling for the Master's robe. I will never forget the sound of that cruel and inhuman laughter. How could they jest when the Lord was suffering? Oh...it is hard to sleep at night. How can the soldiers sleep after what they did to him?

SECOND DISCIPLE

How can the religious leaders sleep? It was their fault. They were always jealous of Jesus. The Jewish leaders and priests practically forced the Roman government to sentence Jesus to death. His blood is on their hands.

FIRST DISCIPLE

True! True! Yet Pilate would have released Jesus if the people had not chosen to release that notorious criminal, Barabbas, instead of Jesus.

SECOND DISCIPLE

It all comes back to the religious leaders. They convinced the people to crucify Jesus and to release Barabbas. The people are guilty, but the priests must accept most of the blame. They used their power and influence to convince the people.

FIRST DISCIPLE

If the people had only listened to the truth, they would have freed Jesus. For the first time in my life I am ashamed of our people. They killed an innocent man. Even the Roman governor
knew Jesus was innocent. He tried to release Him, but the people refused to listen to the truth.

SECOND DISCIPLE

Yes, they listened to the chief priests because they were afraid of being excommunicated.

FIRST DISCIPLE

Jesus is gone and I don't know what to do. We left our trades to follow the Master. Now He is dead and I don't know what I am suppose to do with my life. I always thought He would be with us.

SECOND DISCIPLE

I cannot believe that He is gone. Just a few days ago we were walking down the road together and the Lord was preaching to the multitude.

FIRST DISCIPLE

I know. I keep thinking about the time we spent with Jesus. Do you remember that time when a leper came running toward us?

SECOND DISCIPLE

I sure do remember! I though the leper would keep a respectable distance, but he ran straight over to Jesus and bowed down before Him. My first instinct was to run, but I stood there.

FIRST DISCIPLE

Then do you remember what happened?

SECOND DISCIPLE

How could I ever forget? The Lord touched him! The Lord reached out and laid His bare hand on the rotting flesh.

FIRST DISCIPLE

The crowd gasped in horror that the Master would touch the leper. I, myself, wondered why the Lord did not just speak the word, but He reached out and touched the leper. I think the man was as surprised as we were when it happened.

SECOND DISCIPLE

Remember when the Lord said to him, "Be healed," and the leprosy disappeared. We talked about that incident for days.
